I made the little doll above, hanging from the chandelier in our dining room, while pondering my "book" project for calligraphy class, and two dolls for Katie Estvold (of Sparrows Cottage)'s joggles.com "Mrs. Bird" doll class. The book is done and the two dolls are quietly waiting to be completed. More on the book in a future post.

This is "Dawn", the first of the two dolls. She sits upon my dresser and is among the last things I see as I drift to sleep. She also greets me in the morning, reminding me that she needs the rest of her embellishments and she's eager to have pictures of herself (after I have finished her) posted for others to see.
To the left of Dawn is the Yin Yang box I made in Alma de la Melena Cox's joggles.com class. A chakra made by Tricia Biesmann is draped across its top. To the right of the doll is a box I made in calligraphy class; the box is constructed inside of an antique book cover.

This handlettered chinese proverb accompanies Dawn:
"that the birds of worry and care fly above your head
this you cannot change
but that they build nests in your hair
this you can prevent"
this you cannot change
but that they build nests in your hair
this you can prevent"

The second of the dolls, blue-haired and unnamed as of yet, wrapped gently in a piece of the fabric used for Dawn's underskirt, awaits clothing and arms and embellishment downstairs in the kitchen.
Marion, I actually got a lump in my throat today as I looked at your beautiful things. I'm just full to bursting over your profusion of creativity!! You inspire me - you are an absolute ray of sunshine. I'm SOO happy to be able to read your words and see your pretty things!
