Best Friends class with June Jaeger at the Stitchin Post

Tiger and Pono in fabric, transformed from a photo, the product of a two day class with June Jaeger of Log Cabin Quiltworks at The Stitchin' Post in Sisters, Oregon.  At the end of day 2 only the heads were completely fused together.  After a few more hours all the pieces are fused to each other and to the background fabric. A good start!

May moments

We walked along a favorite path next to the river shaded by tall trees under blue skies.  I wore my new sunglasses which made all the greens seem greener.  There near the path were these delicate purple flowers.

In spots the river raged loudly near our quiet path.

My view on the walk included the back of our lead dog - eager to see what lay ahead and to each side and under the rocks and brush - he explored happily at the end of his leash.

He paused when I slowed to take photos.  Sometimes turning to encourage me to move forward.

Every once in a while he stopped to take a long cool drink from the river.

Our river.

Strippy Strata Quilt for Tiger and Pono

Inspired by Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran, this quilt made from "Strata" parts I finished this afternoon  and it is already in use by Pono.  The quilt goes on top of our nice bed quilt and is for our dogs, Tiger and Pono to sleep on.

2009 Endings

As 2009 came to a close, I finished up a few angelina fiber experiments in my Central Oregon "studio" and enjoyed the quiet beauty of the snow with my family... then returned to the west side of the cascades and took in the view of the coast range as the sun set.

Behind the house, the pond, recently nearly drained, was a block of ice under a layer of newly fallen snow.

Inside the house, some angelina projects.  This one was a swirly experiment.  It now hangs, sparkling, near the desk where I type as it awaits its next step.

Other winter angelina projects - a cone wrapped in ribbon yarn, a wire framed bowl and the base form of a doll being constructed around a tall, slender german wine bottle.

Later in the day, after the several hour drive across the cascades, the sun set.

Bits and Pieces of late September

Central Oregon September flowers bloom.

The dogs watch birds and critters.

Night falls.

My journal and a day's harvest.  The tomatoes are washed and frozen the day they are harvested and the beans blanched and frozen.

Images from a visit out to a friend's hazelnut farm.  We enjoy the journey to and being at the farm.  Hazelnut harvesting was happening.  We explored, picking some grapes to eat and others to juice. 

There was a baby shower for our niece.  I hand-quilted a baby quilt made from a Daisy Kingdom panel printed in 1993. I made the card last year; the image of mother and child is from a rubber stamp designed by Alma de la Melena Cox.

We canned a batch of blackberries and a batch of no-sugar blackberry jam and sent them by USPS Priority Mail ahead of us to California.  The berries are from our garden.

Freshly harvested hazelnuts from the farm, lightly roasted.  Delicious!
