Quilting with Freddy and Gwen and friends! ... two week update

The first quilt top, which I worked on in class, is now completely pieced and ready to be quilted.  Flowers and other embellishments will be added after the quilting is done.  Very "color"ful = Very "joy"ful.  I learned a lot while putting this together about not getting bogged down in details and allowing the top to evolve with minimal planning and worrying.  Its going to take practice for me to get good at those things.
During a pause in piecing the first top, inspired by my classmates, I dove into a stack of "awesome odds" fabrics I picked up at The Pine Needle in Lake Oswego last week, and pieced this strippy strata quilt top.  For this quilt I will use batting that has been in my closet for about twenty years.  Fabric with an orchid print on a black background will be used for the backing.

Two tops ready to be quilted ... and intended for use in our home!  The first is a wall hanging for the living room and the second goes on our bed for the dogs to lay on.
